SCUBA Marketing is About to Grow Up

I want to take a moment to introduce myself and further explain my goals for this new community.  My name is Nick Bostic and I am a PADI Master Instructor. Before all of you NAUI, SSI, YMCA and any other certification agency instructors or dive shops hit your browser’s back button, stay with me for just a second.

SCUBA Marketing Needs to Modernize

The truth is, every dive shop, independent instructor, resort, publication and certification agency has fallen behind when it comes to using modern tools such as blogs, email marketing and social networking to grow their business. By stopping by, you are helping yourself to take that first step to overcome this hurdle.

Why Me, Why Now?

I’ve been doing internet marketing since HTML has existed. My current day job has me teaching professionals in the real estate industry how to market online.  I thought they were behind, but then I took a look back at the dive industry and was amazed.  So I’m bringing my vast knowledge back to the industry I love the most.  I’ll go into more detail about my history soon so you have a better understanding of why you might want to listen to some of the things I have to say, but for now, I’m keeping it short and sweet.

New SCUBA Marketing

When I had the idea for this site, I started a search (online of course) to see if anyone else was marketing their SCUBA business effectively. There were a couple of businesses that were understanding one aspect somewhat, but no one had the complete package. So that’s what this site will do: teach you how to modernize your marketing.

Information can be used by:

  • Independent instructors
  • Dive shops
  • Resorts
  • Publications
  • Gear manufacturers
  • Certification agencies
  • Anyone involved in the SCUBA industry

I’ll cover topics such as:

  • Blogging
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Email marketing
  • Paid advertising
  • Traditional marketing integration
  • Using photo and video to build excitement and retain previous students/customers
  • And a whole lot more

So if you fit into that first list and aren’t using everything in the second list, you’re in the right place.

No offense to Ocean Reef (I’ve used their SCUBA gear in the past and been impressed and I’d love to try their SDVL), but I personally strongly dislike the concept of their new Underwater Cellular Phone. It seems like it must be a New Year’s resolution for people in the SCUBA diving industry to finally get in the game with social media, especially Facebook and Twitter.

I’ve had quite a few people inquire as to hiring me to manage social media for their dive center and the honest truth right now is I’m a little too busy to take anything like that on.
