The Social Media Revolution

Erik Qualman has been making some great social media video infographics over the years. This is his most recent update.

Some key takeaways for your SCUBA business:

  • Social media is NOT about technology, but relationships
  • Over 50% of the world’s population is under 30 years old
  • In the US, Facebook tops Google for weekly traffic
  • Research shows online learning is more effective than face to face
  • 50% of the mobile internet traffic in the UK is for Facebook
  • Generations Y and Z consider email outdated
  • Groupon will reach $1 Billion in sales faster than any company in history
  • Social gamers will buy $6 Billion in virtual goods by 2013
  • Every minute, 24 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube
  • 34% of bloggers post opinions about products and brands
  • 90% of consumers trust peer recommendations
  • 93% of marketers use social media for business
I especially like and agree with this point:

The ROI of social media is your business will still exist in 5 years

While this video had my least favorite music, it does drive the point home.

Has your SCUBA business embraced social media for engagement?

  • Reviewing the Traffic Funnel

To fully optimize your use of social media, you have to look at it as a funnel. The large, open end of the funnel is your social media presence. The bigger the large end of the funnel, the more traffic you can drive your way. In other words, the more social media accounts you have, the larger your funnel.
