Blog Action Day 2009: Climate Change

From their site:

Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.

This years theme is Climate Change. For those of you who don’t believe in global warming, feel free to pass on reading this article.

Climate Change and Me (and SCUBA Diving)

I worked on a live aboard in the Bahamas right around the year 2000. It was incredible SCUBA diving. The corals were colorful, fish were plentiful, it was paradise. After I met my wife, her and I agreed to knock out the SCUBA vacation destinations one of us had been to, but not the other before exploring any new destinations. We returned to the Bahamas around 2003, only a few years later and I was shocked.

The coral wasn’t as colorful. The fish weren’t as plentiful. The SCUBA diving wasn’t as nice.

The temperature of the ocean is increasing. This hurts the food chain, which makes the underwater environment deteriorate. If people don’t want to dive because there’s not as much to see, that makes it harder for me to teach, which I love to do.
